The Neocatechumenal Way as a fundamentalism in Roman Catholic Church

Neocatechumenate is a movement that responds to the call of the Second Vatican Council, calling for the restoration of Christian values in a 'foreign', secularized world. Return to traditional forms of faith, criticism of modernization processes, the conviction of the moral corruption, antagonistic forces of good and evil, could indicate that the Neocatechumenate is a fundamentalist movement.Based on in-depth ethnographic interviews conducted with two members, we can say that there are some items that could indicate the nature of the fundamentalist movement. However, they are non-aggressive forms of social action that do not cause behavior from members perceived as dangerous. Neocatechumenate in itself does not pose a threat.Unfortunately, due to the closure of organizations and dislike of strangers, as manifested by the lack of agreement on the interviews I can unequivocally state that Neocatechumenate is a fundamentalist organization in the Roman Catholic Church. To confirm the thesis work should speak with more respondents, both currently owned by the Neocatechumenate, as well as from those who have gone from the organization.

Neokatechumenat jest ruchem, który odpowiedział na wołanie Soboru Watykańskiego II, wezwanie o przywrócenie wartości chrześcijańskich w „obcym”, zsekularyzowanym świecie. Powrót do tradycyjnych form wiary, krytyka procesów modernizacji, przekonanie o moralnym zepsuciu ogółu społeczeństwa, antagonizm sił dobra i zła akcentowany w przesłaniu „Drogi” oraz zawładnięcie życiem człowieka mogłyby wskazywać na to, że Neokatechumenat jest ruchem fundamentalistycznym. Na podstawie pogłębionych wywiadów etnograficznych przeprowadzonych z dwoma członkiniami można stwierdzić, że obecne są w nim takie elementy, które mogłyby wskazywać na fundamentalistyczny charakter tego ruchu. Są to jednak nieagresywne formy działania społecznego, które nie powodują u członków Drogi zachowań postrzeganych, jako niebezpieczne. Neokatechumenat sam w sobie nie stwarza bowiem zagrożenia.Niestety ze względu na zamknięcie organizacji i niechęć wobec obcych, objawiającą się brakiem zgody na przeprowadzanie wywiadów nie mogę jednoznacznie stwierdzić, iż Neokatechumenat jest organizacją fundamentalistyczną w Kościele rzymskokatolickim. Aby potwierdzić tezę pracy, należałoby porozmawiać z większą ilością respondentów, zarówno należących obecnie do Neokatechumenatu, jak i z osobami, które z organizacji odeszły.
