The concept of freedom and its constraints in philosophy of contemporary liberals – Friedrich August von Hayek and Isaiah Berlin

The paper presents the concept of freedom of Friedrich August von Hayek and Isaiah Berlin. In the first part, the author shows the Hayekian notion of the individual and his position in society, the vision of the state based on the category of coercion and the rule of law and the definition of freedom. Then, in the similar way, presents Berlin’s conception of induvidual, the concept of pluralism of values and freedom. The last chapter is devoted to the statement of considerations, both liberals. It moves the issue of the entity and its limitations, explaining the concepts: the sphere of non-interference of man, human rationality and coercion. Next there are shown the source of freedom, the statement of negative and positive liberty, and the relationship of freedom to the concepts of equality and democracy. The final element presents the three layers of freedom - political and philosophical, legal and economic. The summary is a synthesis of considerations made by Friedrich August von Hayek and Isaiah Berlin.

Praca przedstawia koncepcję wolności Friedricha Augusta von Hayeka oraz Isaiaha Berlina. W pierwszej części pracy autor ukazuje Hayekowskie pojęcie jednostki i jej usytuowanie w społeczeństwie, wizję państwa w oparciu o kategorię przymusu i rządów prawa oraz definicję wolności. Następnie analogicznie zostaje zaprezentowania Berlinowska wizja jednostki, koncepcja pluralizmu wartości oraz wolności. Ostatni rozdział jest poświęcony zestawieniu rozważań obydwu liberałów. Porusza problematykę jednostki i jej ograniczeń, wyjaśniając pojęcia: sfery nieingerencji człowieka, rozumności ludzkiej oraz przymusu. Następnie ukazane są źródła wolności, zestawienie wolności negatywnej i pozytywnej oraz relacja wolności z pojęciami równości i demokracji. Ostatnim elementem jest ukazanie trzech warstw wolności - polityczno-filozoficznej, prawnej oraz ekonomicznej. W podsumowanie dokonano syntezy rozważań Friedricha Augusta von Hayeka oraz Isaiaha Berlina.
