Characteristics of symptomatic improvement in hospitalized patients with eating disorders based on selected medical history

This paper is an attempt to characterize the process of treating eating disorders and is looking into the symptomatic improvement in the study group of patients of Pododdział Leczenia Zaburzeń Leczenia, Oddział Kliniczny Psychiatrii Dorosłych at the University Hospital in Krakow. The paper discuss the essence of eating disorders, the history of this phenomenon, and a detailed description of the selected illnesses - mental anorexia nervosa and mental bulimia nervosa. The study takes in regard the diagnostic criteria of those diseases, the treatment process and various forms of therapeutic work. In the next chapter of the paper the author describes various factors that may cause the occurrence those eating disorders. The process is discussed with regard of the differences connected with specific environment - biological, cultural, social, personality and family. The study also describes the role of the nutritionist in the treatment of eating disorders. The essence of nutritional therapy, and extremely significant nutritional education is also thoroughly researched. Due to the lack of knowledge about nutritionists in Poland, the paper also shows the working environment of this work group throughout the world. The recommendations of the American Psychiatric Association and the Royal College of Psychiatrists were very important in that matter. The original research describes the treatment of those eating disorders. The analysis of the study group for symptomatic improvement and the process of obtaining it is also described. The study is summarized with important conclusions. The study to lead to the several important observations, on the one hand, similar to the conclusions of research from other cultural contexts, the other indicating the specificity of the clinical picture and course of treatment of patients in the analyzed program.

Niniejsza praca stanowi próbę scharakteryzowania procesu leczenia zaburzeń odżywiania oraz uzyskanej poprawy objawowej w grupie badanej, pacjentów Pododdziału Leczenia Zaburzeń Jedzenia, Oddziału Klinicznego Psychiatrii Dorosłych, Szpitala Uniwersyteckiego w Krakowie.W pracy dokonano omówienia istoty zaburzeń odżywiania, ich historii oraz szczegółowego opisu wybranych jednostek chorobowych - anoreksji psychicznej (anorexia nervosa) oraz bulimii psychicznej (bulimia nervosa) z uwzględnieniem kryteriów diagnostycznych tychże chorób, ich leczenia oraz różnych form pracy terapeutycznej. W kolejnym rozdziale dokonano przedstawienia czynników, które mogą warunkować wystąpienie w/w zaburzeń odżywiania, z podziałem na grupy- biologiczne, kulturowe, społeczne, osobowościowe oraz rodzinne.W pracy przedstawiono również rolę dietetyka w leczeniu zaburzeń odżywiania. Opisano istotę terapii żywieniowej, postępowania dietetycznego oraz niezmiernie istotnej edukacji żywieniowej. Ze względu na ciągle zbyt małą uwagę poświęcaną dietetykom w Polsce dokonano również przedstawienia pracy tychże specjalistów na świecie, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem rekomendacji American Psychiatric Association oraz Royal College of Psychiatrists. W części badawczej pracy skupiono się na opisie programu leczenia omawianych zaburzeń odżywiania w Pododdziale Leczenia Zaburzeń Odżywiania Oddziału Psychiatrii Dorosłych Dzieci i Młodzieży UJ CM oraz dokonano analizy badanej grupy pod kątem obrazu klinicznego, korelatów przebiegu leczenia. Przeprowadzone badanie doprowadziło do uzyskania kilku istotnych obserwacji, z jednej strony zbliżonych do wniosków badań z innych kontekstów kulturowych, z drugiej wskazujących na specyfikę obrazu klinicznego pacjentek i przebiegu leczenia w analizowanym programie.
