The education in museums of contemporary art in the context of the institutional definition of art on the example of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow

Praca ma na celu przedstawienie sposobu realizacji funkcji edukacyjnej w muzeum sztuki współczesnej w odniesieniu do instytucjonalnej definicji sztuki autorstwa Arthura Danto i George’a Dickiego. W pierwszym rozdziale omówiona zostanie instytucjonalna definicja sztuki i nakreślony historyczny kontekst jej powstania. Następnie przedstawione zostanie jej zastosowanie do sztuki współczesnej, a także podkreślone zagrożenia, jakie mogą płynąć z jej bezkrytycznego przyjęcia. W kolejnym rozdziale zostanie przybliżona definicja muzeum i jego główne funkcje, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem funkcji edukacyjnej, jak również jej zastosowanie w muzeach sztuki. W ostatnim rozdziale zostanie omówiona realizacja funkcji edukacyjnej w Muzeum Sztuki Współczesnej w Krakowie w odniesieniu do jego strategii w zakresie edukacji. Rozpatrzona zostanie także prezentacja merytorycznej zawartości kolekcji stałej Muzeum.

The work aims to discuss the implementation of the educational function of the museum of contemporary art in relation to the institutional definition of art which was developed by Arthur Danto and George Dickie. In the first chapter, I will discuss the institutional definition of art and outline the historical context of its creation. Then I will present its application to contemporary art and also I will emphasize the hazards that could arise from its unconditional acceptance. In the next chapter I will present the definition of the museum and its main functions, with particular emphasis on the educational one and also its application in art museums. In the last chapter I will focus on the performing of the educational function of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cracow, discussing its strategy for education and its implementation. In the end I will focus on the development of the permanent collection of the Museum.
