Machiny oblężnicze oraz oblężenia w starożytnej Grecji i Rzymie od V wieku p.n.e. do I wieku n.e.

Since the beginning the human history is associated with the constant technological development. In the face of the quick development of military and techniques of warfare- this progress took on dynamic shape. The most visible and tangible progress may include progress in engineering and construction of siege engines. This diploma work presents the machines, which were used during the siege of the ancient cities. It focuses on machines protecting soldiers against fire and machines that destroyed the fortifications of cities while allowing for close- up troops near walls without exposing them to enemy fire. The study included only a cursory description of missiles throwing machines that were an essential element in most sieges of antiquity. Another issue included in the job is the description and analysis of the major sieges t which took place between the fifth century BC and the end of the first century AD. This allows to trace the changes that have occurred in technology and tactics siege of fortifications over the years.

Od początku dzieje człowieka związane są z nieustającym rozwojem technologicznym. W obliczu rozwoju wojskowości i technik prowadzenia wojen, postęp ten przybierał dynamiczny kształt. Do najbardziej widocznych i namacalnych postępów można zaliczyć progres w technice i konstrukcji machin oblężniczych. Niniejsza praca prezentuje machiny oblężnicze, które używane były w trakcie oblężeń starożytnego świata. Skupia się na machinach ochraniających żołnierzy przed ostrzałem oraz machinach, które niszczyły umocnienia miast pozwalając jednocześnie na zbliżenie się żołnierzy blisko murów nie narażając ich na ostrzał przeciwnika. W pracy zawarty jest jedynie pobieżny opis machin miotających, które były nieodzownym elementem w większości oblężeń starożytności. Kolejnym zagadnieniem zawartym w pracy jest opis i analiza najważniejszych oblężeń mających miejsce pomiędzy V wiekiem p.n.e. a końcem I wieku n.e. Dzięki temu można prześledzić zmiany, jakie zaszły w technice i taktyce oblegania umocnień na przestrzeni tych lat.
