La fatalità del destino e la virtù umana nel "Re Torrismondo" di Torquato Tasso

The paper explores the problem of the relationship between man and fate and that (connected to it) of the human guilt and responsibility in Tasso’s Re Torrismondo. The main aim of the intertextual analysis here proposed is to prove that, although a free rewriting of the Oedipus the King, Sofocle’s tragedy serves both as model and anti-model for the complex vicissitudes of Tasso’s work and for its characterisation of tragic, as confirmed by the ‘dialogue’ here present recalling Dante’s episode of Paolo and Francesca.

Si approfondiscono la problematica del rapporto tra l’uomo e il destino e quella (collegata) della colpevolezza e responsabilità umane nel Re Torrismondo di Tasso. L’obiettivo principale dell’analisi intertestuale proposta è quello di dimostrare che, nonostante si tratti di un libero rifacimento dell’Edipo Re, la tragedia sofoclea funge sia da modello che da antimodello per la complicata vicenda tassiana e per il suo carattere del tragico. Lo conferma pure ‘il dialogo’ ivi presente con l’episodio dantesco di Paolo e Francesca.
