Relation between Philip II Augustus and the Christian Church based on narrative sources wrritten at the turn of the 13th century

The Master’s thesis is devoted to complex relations between Philip II Augustus the king of France (1180-1223) and the Christian Church. It is based on the analysis of some narrative sources written in France at the turn of the 13th century. This paper presents not only the relations between the king and the papacy, French clergy and the Church as an institution but also analyses Philip’s personal attitude towards God, Christianity and crusades.

Niniejsza praca magisterska dotyczy złożonych relacji pomiędzy królem Francji Filipem II Augustem (1180-1223) a Kościołem. Polega na analizie francuskich źródeł opisowych z przełomu XII i XIII wieku. Obejmuje nie tylko stosunki monarchy ze Stolicą Apostolską, duchowieństwem francuskim oraz Kościołem jako instytucją, lecz także osobisty stosunek władcy wobec Boga i wiary oraz idei krucjat.
