Contemporary image of the profession of librarian in Poland in selected social groups

Celem pracy jest określenie, w jaki sposób postrzegany jest zawód bibliotekarza w Polsce, szczególnie w grupach uczniów szkół średnich oraz studentów.W celu zaprezentowania pragmatyki zawodu bibliotekarza wykorzystano publikacje dotyczące kompetencji niezbędnych w zawodzie bibliotekarza, wykonywanych przez niego zadań, pojawiających się nowych specjalności w zawodzie bibliotekarza, etyki zawodowej, kształcenia bibliotekarzy dawniej i współcześnie. Zaprezentowano również dotychczas przeprowadzone badania na temat rangi zawodu bibliotekarza i jego wizerunku w społeczeństwie.Wizerunek zawodu bibliotekarza został zbadany wśród 60 uczniów szkół średnich oraz 60 studentów. Zastosowano metodę badań ilościowych oraz w celu właściwej interpretacji danych liczbowych wykorzystano dane jakościowe. Wykorzystano technikę badania ankietowego.Wyciągnięto wnioski, że zawód bibliotekarza nadal postrzegany jest stereotypowo, co nie czyni go atrakcyjnym dla młodych ludzi. Uznano, że praca bibliotekarza jest monotonna, nudna, nie daje możliwości rozwoju, jest to praca stabilna, spokojna, niewymagająca kreatywnego myślenia i bezstresowa. W oczach studentów zawód bibliotekarza wypada korzystniej niż wśród uczniów. Studenci są również świadomi istnienia negatywnych stereotypów dotyczących zawodu bibliotekarza.

The aim of the study is to determine how the librarian profession is perceived in Poland, especially in groups of technical schools pupils and students.In order to present the pragmatics of the librarian profession used publications concerning the competencies which are needed in the profession of librarian, carry out its task, the emerging new specialty in the profession of librarian, professional ethics, education librarians in the past and today. In the study is also presented previously carried out a research into the importance of the librarian profession and its image in the community.The image of the librarian profession was examined among 60 pupils of technical schools and 60 students. It was used the method of quantitative research. and to the proper interpretation of the figures it used qualitative data. It was used a technique of the questionnaire survey.It was concluded that the librarian profession is still seen stereotypically and therefore it is not attractive to young people. They decided that the work of the librarian is monotonous, boring, stress-free, stable, quiet and it is a profession without career prospects, in which creative thinking is not necessary. Among the students the profession of librarian falls more favorably than among pupils. Students are also aware of the negative stereotypes of the librarian profession.
