Humanitarian law in the context of war correspondents on the example of contemporary armed conflicts.

Praca dotyczy ewolucji zawodu korespondenta wojennego przedstawionej na tle współczesnych konfliktów zbrojnych. W pracy przyjęto założenie, że dziennikarz wojenny jako przedstawiciel mediów z biernego obserwatora stał się istotnym elementem wojennej machiny. W pracy podjęto próbę zdefiniowania roli dziennikarzy wojennych i tym samym określenia wpływu mediów na przebieg konfliktu wojennego. W pracy pokazano też działania korespondentów na przykładzie wybranych konfliktów zbrojnych, mające wpływ na zmianę przebiegu wojny. Poruszono także problematykę współczesnej formy prowadzenia wojen, czyli kwestię terroryzmu i roli mediów w procesie kształtowania wizerunku grup terrorystycznych. Zaznaczono także współczesną praktykę prowadzenia wojen i rolę jaką w tym procesie odgrywa informacja. Podjęto też kwestie prawa humanitarnego, jego znaczenia i obecnej odsłony.

This paper concerns the evolution of the profession of war correspondent depicted against the background of contemporary armed conflicts. The study assumes that war journalist as a representative of the media from a passive observer has become an important element of the war machine. The paper attempts to define the role of a war journalist, and thus determine the impact of the media on the course of military conflict.The paper shows how the actions of the correspondents affect the course of armed conflicts. Thesis also discusses the issue of contemporary forms of warfare, namely the issue of terrorism and the role of the media in shaping the image of terrorist groups. The contemporary practice of warfare and the role of information in the process has also been discussed. The issue of humanitarian law, its meaning and present view are considered too.
