The role of the head of state in parliamentary and presidential political systems – the example of Poland and USA.

Praca stanowi porównanie prezydenckiego i parlamentarnego systemu politycznego - uwaga autora koncentruje się na roli, jaką pełni najważniejsza osoba w państwie. Te dwa najbardziej popularne typy rządów demokratycznych ujawniają wiele cech wspólnych ale także różnic w odniesieniu do funkcji pełnionej przez prezydenta. Szczegóły przedstawione zostają na przykładzie dwóch krajów: USA, które stanowi wzorcowy przykład systemu prezydenckiego oraz Polski, będącej zrównoważoną wersją systemu parlamentarnego. Wykorzystana w pracy literatura obejmuje 49 pozycji – są to głównie opracowania zwarte polskich i zagranicznych autorów, a także artykuły naukowe, akty prawne oraz źródła internetowe.

This paper is a kind of comparison of presidential and parliamentary political systems -author’s attention is focused on the role played by the most important person in the country. These two most popular types of democratic government reveal many similarities but also differences of president’s functioning. Details are presented on the example of two countries: the USA, which is a typical example of the presidential political system and Poland, which is a balanced version of the parliamentary system. Literature used in thesis includes 49 items - mainly books of domestic and foreign authors, as well as articles, legislatives acts and sources from Internet.
