Japanese horror and american remake. Comparative analysis based on the selected examples.

Niniejsza praca licencjacka rozpoczyna się od krótkiego opisu poszczególnych elementów japońskiego folkloru, które wpłynęły na późniejszy rozwój horroru jako gatunku. Szczególnie brane jest pod uwagę japońskie ghost story i legendy o duchach określanych jako yurei, które miały duży wpływ na współczesne dzieła kina grozy. W dalszych rozdziałach prowadzone są rozważania na temat znaczenia zjawiska remake’u w kinematografii oraz analiza porównawcza jednych z największych dzieł grozy: „Ringu” Hideo Nakaty oraz „Klątwy Ju-on” Takashiego Shimizu z ich amerykańskimi wersjami.

My bachelor thesis begins from the short description of selected elements of the japanese folklore, which had an influence on the further development of the horror genre, especially the ghost story and legends about yurei ghosts. In the other chapters i am considering a meaning of the remake in modern cinema and i am making the comparative analysis of two japanese horror movies – “The Ring” by Hideo Nakata and “Ju-on” by Takashi Shimizu with their american remakes.
