Time and Identity in the Movies of Christopher Nolan

The aim of the paper is to depict the relations between three time layers (real time, which is connected to viewers' sense of time; fictional diegetic time and chiseled time, by which I mean narration) present in Christopher Nolan's work. In the dissertation I focus on the correspondence between damaged identities of the protagonists and the discourse used by the director. I analyse three movies - „Memento” (2000), „Inception” (2010) and „Interstellar” (2014), which I consider to be the most accurate manifestations of director's fascination in time and subjective narratives.

Celem pracy jest opis relacji, jakie w twórczości Christophera Nolana zachodzą pomiędzy trzema warstwami czasowymi (czasem rzeczywistym widza, czasem fikcyjnym dzieła oraz czasem wyrzeźbionym, rozumianym przeze mnie jako narracja). W rozprawie wykazuję również związki pomiędzy tożsamościami protagonistów i ich traumami a dyskursem, jaki reżyser stosuje w swoich filmach. Analizie poddałam trzy filmy - „Memento” (2000), „Incepcja” (2010) oraz „Interstellar” (2014), będące najpełniejszymi manifestacjami fascynacji reżysera czasem oraz tworzeniem subiektywnych narracji.
