Wirusy replikujące w obrębie dróg oddechowych pacjentów z astmą mogą mieć wpływ na rozwój i przebieg choroby. Identyfikacja wirusów w próbkach klinicznych daje możliwość weryfikacji hipotezy, że pacjenci z ciężką astmą, w porównaniu do pacjentów zdrowych oraz tych z łagodnym przebiegiem astmy, wykazują zwiększoną i długotrwałą obecność wirusów w drogach oddechowych.

Virus replicating within the airways of patients with asthma can affect the development and course of the disease. Identification of viruses in clinical samples makes it possible to verify the hypothesis, that patients with severe asthma, compared to healthy patients and those with mild asthma, have an increased and long-lasting presence of viruses in the respiratory tract.
