World against the genocide - the role of the international community in the Rwandan conflict.

Rwanda is a small country in the middle of Africa, which is associated mostly with the genocide, which took place from April to July 1994. As a result of the conflict in Rwanda, 800 thousands to a million people was murdered, mostly members of the Tutsi. The aim of this work is to analyze the role of selected countries and international organizations in the events leading up to the genocide, as well as during it. The paper discusses engagement of such western countries like French, Belgium and the United States of America and also the role of the United Nations. This Bachelor’s thesis contains detailed analysis of issues such as: the genesis of Rwandan conflict, course of genocide, the involvement of international actors in Rwanda before the genocide and reactions of the international community to the genocide.

Rwanda to mały, środkowoafrykański kraj, który kojarzony jest głównie z ludobójstwem, mającym miejsce od kwietnia do połowy lipca 1994 roku. W wyniku tego konfliktu w Rwandzie zamordowano od 800 tysięcy do nawet miliona osób, głównie pochodzenia Tutsi. Celem pracy jest analiza roli wybranych państw i organizacji międzynarodowych w wydarzeniach prowadzących do ludobójstwa, a także w jego trakcie. W pracy zbadano zaangażowanie takich państw zachodnich jak Francja, Belgia oraz Stany Zjednoczone. Ocenie poddana została także Organizacja Narodów Zjednoczonych. Niniejsza praca zawiera omówienie następujących zagadnień: geneza konfliktu rwandyjskiego, przebieg ludobójstwa, zaangażowanie aktorów międzynarodowych w Rwandzie przed ludobójstwem oraz reakcja społeczności międzynarodowej na ludobójstwo.
