Topography and function of the Campus Martius

Celem pracy jest ukazanie roli jaką pełniło Pole Marsowe w starożytnym Rzymie. Pole Marsowe była to równina powodziowa na północ od centrum Wiecznego Miasta, usytuowana w zakolu Tybru i pomiędzy wzgórzami Pincio, Kwirynału i Kapitolu. Praca została podzielona na trzy główne rozdziały. W pierwszym z nich przedstawiony został zarys legendarnych początków Rzymu i wizerunek patrona Pola Marsowego. Drugi rozdział ukazuje jak kształtował się obraz Pola Marsowego w okresie Republiki i Cesarstwa skupiając się bezpośrednio na uwarunkowaniu geograficznym terenu. Trzeci rozdział pracy jest w pełni poświęcony budowlom Pola Marsowego dzieląc je na budowle sakralne i użyteczności publicznej.

The theme of dissertation is to show the function of the Campus Martius in ancient Rome. The Campus Martius was a floodplain area on the north of Eternal City centre situated in the Tiber bent and between the slopes of the Capitoline, the Quirinal and the Pincian hills. The work is divided into three main chapters. In the first one I presented the outlines of legendary, earliest Rome history and Campus Martius patron's image. The second chapter show the function of the Campus Martius in Republic and Empire ages and it's geographical aspects. Finally, the third chapter is completely destined to the Capmus Martius architecture with divison to the sacred and public construction.
