“Slavic” and African” plays involving feminism in Polish modern theatre

Praca: „Słowiańskie” i „afrykańskie” gry z feminizmem w polskim teatrze najnowszy ma na celu ukazanie funkcjonowania feminizmu na polskich scenach teatralnych. Poprzez analizę o charakterze feministycznym autorka chce ukazać wpływ społeczeństwa patriarchalnego i mającej w nim swe korzenie rodziny na bohaterki dwóch wybranych spektakli: Wandy Pawła Passiniego oraz Opowieści afrykańskich według Szekspira Krzysztofa Warlikowskiego. Poprzez ukazanie społeczeństwa oraz rodziny jako głównego źródła opresji kobiet, ukazane zostaje , że jedynie wyrwanie się spod porządku męskiej dominacji jest drogą do rozwiązania kobiecych problemów.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of feminism on Polish theatre. The main goal of feminist art is to influence cultural attitudes and break stereotypes. The thesis concerns the feminist analysis of two Polish plays: Wanda directed by Paweł Passini, and Opowieści afrykańskie według Szekspira by Krzysztof Warlikowski. The female characters in these plays are victims of their families, but also the whole patriarchal societies. Recalling radicalism which has arisen within the second-wave feminism, the author shows how important is to fight against the patriarchy. As patriarchal society is the main source of female oppression, the best way to liberation is an escape from this socio-cultural model. By presenting the family as a social institution that makes women dependent on their fathers, brothers, or husbands, the author wants to prove that the only safe place for all the women should be free of men.
