The importance of electrotherapy in heart failure - case study

Heart failure is a clinical syndrome, which is the final stage of many cardiovascular diseases. Despite significant progress in the field of drug treatment and surgery, heart failure is still a serious health and social problem throughout the world, including Poland.One of the therapeutic options in patients which heart failure is electrotherapy, including the implantation of an automatic defibrillator-cardioverter (ICD) and resynchronized therapy (CRT). These methods allow obtaining benefits in two dimensions: the improvement of clinical failure, including the reduction of mortality due to progression of heart failure and reduce the risk of sudden cardiac death in the course of complex ventricular arrhythmias.This paper, discusses the importance of application of the automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillator-patient with chronic heart failure.

Niewydolność serca stanowi zespół kliniczny, będący końcowym etapem wielu chorób sercowo-naczyniowych. Pomimo znaczących postępów w dziedzinie leczenia farmakologicznego i chirurgicznego, stanowi nadal poważny problem zdrowotny i społeczny na całym świecie, w tym także w Polsce. Jedną z opcji terapeutycznych u chorych z niewydolnością serca stanowi elektroterapia, obejmująca wszczepienie automatycznego defibrylatora-kardiowertera (ICD) oraz terapię resychronizującą (CRT). Metody te pozwalają na odniesienie korzyści w dwóch wymiarach: poprawy wydolności klinicznej, a co za tym idzie obniżenie śmiertelności z powodu progresji niewydolności serca oraz zredukowanie ryzyka wystąpienia nagłego zgonu sercowego w przebiegu złożonych arytmii komorowych.W niniejszej pracy zostało omówione znaczenie zastosowania automatycznego wszczepialnego defibrylatora-kardiowertera u pacjenta z przewlekłą niewydolnością serca.
