Central and Eastern Europe is becoming more and more important as a sub-region in the political and economic respect, and thus, it is vitally important to analyse its current state and try to make a prediction of regarding possible transformations in the region. With the latest developments in the region, the Visegrad Group’s importance has grown significantly and so we can assume that it may become a centre of attraction for the bordering states in economic, military, and political realms. Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova are of a special interest as they are involved in the EU’s European Neighborhood Instrument programme (ENI) and with different rates of success they are becoming closer to the EU. These states are influenced by two major regional powers (Russian Federation and European Union) and the question is whose influence will prevail. The purpose of the research is to provide a broad and comprehensive analysis of the contemporary developments in the region. A special attention is dedicated to the Polish Eastern policy which is directly connected with the Eastern Partnership initiative. Nevertheless, we cannot achieve the best result without understanding and analysing history of the region and its previous geopolitical developments.
