Physiognomy in novel "Dziennik Serafiny" by J. I. Kraszewski

Celem niniejszej pracy było zbadanie powieści "Dziennik Serafiny" Józefa Ignacego Kraszewskiego pod kątem występowania w niej opisów fizjonomicznych i ich późniejsza interpretacja. Do interpretacji wykorzystano założenia głównie takich badaczy jak Johann Caspar Lavater czy Józef Pastuszka. Zgodnie z ich tezami przeanalizowano opisy fizjonomiczne głównych bohaterów powieści. Istotnym punktem pracy było spojrzenie na uwarunkowania historyczno-społeczne, które przyczyniły się do powstania powieści. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na postać głównej bohaterki, na jej rolę oraz funkcjonowanie w społeczeństwie. Zgodnie z założeniami fizjonomiki zbadano również emocje oraz gesty bohaterów, które określały ich osobowość. Drugą część pracy stanowi tekst powieści "Dziennik Serafiny" Józefa Ignacego Kraszewskiego podany w transkrypcji.

The aim of this thesis was to exam Jozef Ignacy Kraszewski's novel "Dziennik Serafiny" for the presence of phisiognomy descriptions and their subsequent interpretation. The assumptions of such researchers as Johann Caspar Lavater and Józef Pastuszka have been mainly used to interpret. According to their theses the main characters' physiognomic descriptions of the novel have been analysed. An important point of the study was to look at the historical and social conditions that have contributed to the creation of the novel. Particular attention was paid to the character of the heroine, her role and function in society. According to the physiognomy assumptions; emotions and gestures of the characters that defined their personality have been also examined. The second part of the work is the text of the novel "Dziennik Serafiny" by Jozef Ignacy Kraszewski stated in the transcript.
