Analysis of the shadow banking sector in selected countries in the years 2000-2015

The concept of shadow banking sector as inseparable parts of the financial market has shown up in the literature along with the financial crisis of 2007. The existence of this sector, its cross-border nature and unconventional methods of dispersing activity in different economies, still causes insufficiency of information on the functioning of the entities. The aim of the study is to present basic information about the entire system, and to compare the functioning of the sector in three different economies - the United States, China and Poland. After careful analysis of the scientific achievements disputing about the shadow banking sector stated clearly distinct nature of the action in the above-mentioned countries and paid special attention to the mechanisms that contribute to the spread of the shadow banking sector.

Pojęcie sektora shadow banking jako nieodłącznego elementu rynku finansowego zagościło w literaturze wraz z kryzysem finansowym z roku 2007. Istnienie tego sektora, jego transgraniczny charakter oraz niekonwencjonalne metody rozpraszania działalności na różne gospodarki ciągle wywołuje niedosyt informacji o funkcjonowaniu jego podmiotów. Celem pracy jest przedstawienie bazowych informacji o całym systemie oraz porównanie funkcjonowania tego sektora w trzech różnych gospodarkach – Stanach Zjednoczonych, Chinach oraz w Polsce. Po dogłębnej analizie dorobku naukowego rozprawiającego o sektorze shadow banking stwierdzono niewątpliwie odmienny charakter działania w wyżej wymienionych krajach oraz zwrócono szczególną uwagę na mechanizmy przyczyniające się do rozprzestrzeniania się sektora shadow banking.
