British fantasy literature on Polish publishing market in years 2010-2014

W pracy skupiłem się na obecności brytyjskiej literatury fantasy na polskim rynku książki w latach 2010-2014. Moim zasadniczym celem było ustalenie, jakie publikacje dominowały w tym czasie na rynku książki, powieści których autorów wydawane były najczęściej, kto tłumaczył omawiane pozycje oraz które z wydawnictw najaktywniej publikowały omawianą twórczość. W pracy posłużyłem się metodami: bibliograficzną, historyczną, statystyczną oraz analizą i krytyką piśmiennictwa. Zbadałem historię obecności brytyjskiej literatury fantasy w Polsce w latach 1918-2009. Wyróżniłem najważniejszych pisarzy – Terry’ego Pratchetta, Johna R. R. Tolkiena i Neila Gaimana wraz z najistotniejszymi tłumaczami – Piotrem Cholewą i Pauliną Braiter. Wskazałem najaktywniejsze wydawnictwa – Prószyński, Amber oraz Mag – oraz omówiłem profil ich działalności. W pracy zamieściłem aneks obejmujący rekordy książek brytyjskiej fantasy z lata 2010-2014.

In this thesis I focused on the presence of British fantasy literature on the Polish book market in years 2010-2014. The main objective of my research was to determine which publications dominated during the aforementioned period of time, which authors’ novels were published with the highest frequency, who did translations of these books and which publishers were releasing discussed works. I used following scientific methods to conduct the study: bibliographical, historical, statistical and critical literature review. I examined the history of British fantasy literature’s presence, distinguished the most significant writers – Terry Pratchett, John R. R. Tolkien and Neil Gaiman and the most important translators – Piotr Cholewa and Paulina Braiter. I indicated the most active publishers – Prószyński, Amber and Mag – and discussed their activity. In the thesis I posted an annex that covers fantasy literature books’ records from years 2010-2014.
