Grounding language in action: Arthur Glenbergs theory

Wydawać się może, że język jako element systemu poznawczego ma niewiele wspólnego z motoryczną działalnością człowieka. Arthur Glenberg, poprzez koncepcję języka ugruntowanego w działaniu, ukazał jednakże istnienie ścisłej zależności pomiędzy aktywnością fizyczną a systemem językowym. Głównym aspektem systemu językowego, na którym skupia się Glenberg jest znaczenie pojęć językowych. W niniejszej pracy zostaną omówione założenia teorii ugruntowanego w działaniu języka wraz z paradygmatem ucieleśnionego poznania. Wysnuta zostanie również argumentacja podważająca zasadność tej koncepcji.

It may seem that language as an element of the cognitive system has little in common with the motor action of human agents. Nevertheless, Arthur Glenberg in his language grounded in action theory emphasises the existence of a strong dependence between motor activity and language system. Glenberg is mostly focused on the meaning (intension) of linguistic symbols. This paper will elaborate on the main assumptions of language grounded in action theory and embodied cognition paradigm as applied to language. The main problems of those theories will be then considered.
