Trudne dziedzictwo a turystyka : o dysonansie dziedzictwa kulturowego

The aim of this article is to present the idea of difficult/dissonant heritage in the context of the recent development of tourism and heritage studies. The point of reference for this paper is the analysis of the crucial concepts and documents which have been setting the standards of defining the term ‘cultural heritage’. While the term "difficult heritage" has not been defined in the Polish scientific literature yet, the research of the dissonance connected with the cultural heritage has already gained an established position (as can be assumed on the basis of the western subject matter literature). Apart from explaining and comparing the terms, along with the critical analysis of their application, we will illustrate the problem of difficult heritage with the example of Auschwitz which, for many decades, has existed not only as a specific tourist attraction but has also been an important research field of the interdisciplinary scientific reflection on heritage, which is exceptionally interesting to us.

Celem artykułu jest omówienie koncepcji trudnego dziedzictwa (difficult/dissonant heritage) na tle rozwoju studiów nad turystyką i dziedzictwem w ostatnich dekadach. Punktem odniesienia dla naszych rozważań będzie analiza najważniejszych koncepcji oraz dokumentów, których zapisy wyznaczają światowe standardy definiowania pojęcia "dziedzictwo kulturowe". Jak dotąd termin "trudne dziedzictwo" nie doczekał się polskiej definicji, mimo, że - jak można twierdzić na podstawie zachodniej literatury przedmiotu – badania zjawiska dysonansu związanego z dziedzictwem kulturowym cieszą się ugruntowaną pozycją. Oprócz wyjaśnienia i porównania dotychczas stosowanych pojęć oraz krytycznej analizy sposobów ich wykorzystywania zamierzamy przedstawić własną definicję trudnego dziedzictwa oraz wskazać przejawy dysonansu związanego z dziedzictwem na przykładzie obozu Auschwitz, który od lat funkcjonuje nie tylko jako kontrowersyjna atrakcja turystyczna, ale także, co dla nas istotne, ważne pole badawcze dla interdyscyplinarnej refleksji nad dziedzictwem.
