Działalność Melicjusza z Lykopolis i początki schizmy melicjańskiej

The subject of the thesis is the origins and beginnings of Meletian Schism, which rose on the foundation of Egyptian Church in the age of Great Persecution. The name takes from Meletius, bishop of Lycopolis, who began the division by ordaining new presbyters in bishoprics he was not responsible for. Sources regarding the subject of Meletius' activities are not consistent, and reasons of the schism indicated by ancient scholars - or by modern researchers - are often not convincing. For these reasons the thesis is an attempt at an analysis of sources regarding the first period of schism existence - since the beginning of the schism until the exile of John Arcaph, Meletius' successor as a leader of Meletians soon after the Synod of Tyre (335 AD) and establishing the initial character of Martyrs' Church.

Praca dotyczy genezy i pierwszych lat schizmy melicjańskiej, powstałej na łonie egipskiego Kościoła w dobie wielkich prześladowań. Nazwa jej pochodzi od osoby Melicjusza, biskupa Lykopolis, który doprowadził do rozłamu, wyświęcając nowych duchownych na terenach niepodległych sobie diecezji. Źródła poruszające temat działań Melicjusza nie tworzą spójnej całości, a przyczyny, w których antyczni autorzy - lub komentujący ich prace uczeni - szukali przyczyny konfliktu często nie są przekonujące. Praca podejmuje zatem próbę zbiorczej analizy źródeł dotyczących pierwszego okresu istnienia schizmy - od jej powstania aż do wygnania Jana Arkafa, drugiego po Melicjuszu przywódcy melicjan wkrótce po synodzie w Tyrze (a więc po roku 335 r.), a także ustalenia pierwotnego charakteru Kościoła męczenników.
