Kobiety w serialu telewizyjnym "Gotowe na wszystko". Obrazy tożsamości Amerykanek.

The aim of this thesis is to present the way in which a very successful sitcom, Desperate Housewives employs stereotypical images of American women placed in the context of suburban lifestyle. Chapter one provides theoretical background, with special focus on constructing gender role and female identity, Betty Friedan’s achievements towards the change in perception of female and family stereotypes in America, as well as the suburban life presented in popular culture as a symbol of the American dream. The second chapter is dedicated to the historical background of the analysed series, as well as to a brief outline of the storyline. In chapter three an attempt is made to present Wisteria Lane, a fictitious street in which the action of Desperate Housewives takes place, as the world of apparent stereotypes. The main part of this chapter is dedicated to female characters – Gabrielle Solis, Linette Scavo, Bree Van de Kamp, and Susan Mayer. In addition, three other stereotypes (the community of neighbours, the perfect gardens of suburbia, and the no-good woman) are presented briefly. The thesis is concluded by final remarks referring to the way in which the main aim of the work has been realised.

Celem pracy jest ukazanie sposobu, w jaki w cieszącym się ogromną popularnością serialu telewizyjnym Gotowe na wszystko wykreowane zostały stereotypowe obrazy Amerykanek, umieszczone w równie stereotypowym kontekście amerykańskich bogatych przedmieść. W rozdziale pierwszym przedstawiono tło teoretyczne, w którym specjalną uwagę poświęcono konstruowaniu żeńskiej tożsamości oraz ról związanych z płcią, a także wynikom badań prowadzonych przez Betty Friedan, które przyczyniły się do zmian w pojmowaniu stereotypu kobiety i rodziny w Ameryce. Część rozdziału poświęcona została obrazowi życia na przedmieściach, kreowanemu w kulturze popularnej jako symbol „Amerykańskiego marzenia”. W rozdziale drugim omówiono tło historyczne analizowanego serialu, a także zaprezentowano skrót fabuły. Rozdział trzeci jest próbą ukazania Wisteria Lane, fikcyjnej ulicy na której toczy się akcja Gotowych na wszystko, jako świata pozornie typowych stereotypów. Główna część tego rozdziału zawiera charakterystyki postaci kobiecych – Gabrielle Solis, Linette Scavo, Bree Van de Kamp oraz Susan Mayer. Następnie zarysowo ukazane są przykłady innych stereotypów (społeczność sąsiedzka, perfekcyjnie utrzymane ogrody oraz ‘kobieta zła’). Pracę zamykają wnioski końcowe, wyprowadzone na podstawie przeprowadzonych analiz.
