Performing social roles as a factor shaping the attitude of seniors towards their old age

SummaryThe subjects of this study are seniors' attitudes towards their own old age and their social roles. The developed literature discusses the issues of aging and old age in the biological, psychological and social aspects. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between older persons' performance of various social roles and their attitudes towards their own old age. 60 people aged 50-89 participated in the study. The diagnostic survey method was used with the following research tools: the questionnaire survey questionnaire and the unfinished Sentence Test- Attitudes Toward Old Age Self-Esteem by S. Steuden. The results of the study showed that the seniors studied: they take positive attitudes toward their old age and perform many different social roles. Statistically significant was the relationship between being a spouse and evaluating important life values.

StreszczeniePrzedmiotem badań niniejszej pracy są postawy seniorów wobec własnej starości oraz pełnione przez nich role społeczne. W opracowanej literaturze omówiono zagadnienia starzenia się i starości w aspekcie biologicznym, psychologicznym i społecznym. Celem badań było określenie związku między pełnieniem przez osoby starsze różnych ról społecznych a ich postawami wobec własnej starości. W badaniu uczestniczyło 60 osób w wieku 50-89. Zastosowano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego z wykorzystaniem następujących narzędzi badawczych: autorski kwestionariusz ankiety oraz Test zdań niedokończonych- Postawy Wobec własnej starości autorstwa S. Steuden. Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań pokazały, że badani seniorzy: przyjmują pozytywne postawy wobec własnej starości i pełnią wiele różnych ról społecznych. Statystycznie istotny okazał się jedynie związek między pełnieniem roli małżonka a oceną ważnych w życiu wartości.
