Hungarian Dialects: A Hungarian perspective. Research on dialect preferences based on Northern Hungarian, Székely and Moldavian Csango

The purpose of this research paper is to showcase Hungarian dialects against the backdrop of Historical Hungary and to shed light on the preferences and biases Hungarian students have towards individuals who use variations of the Hungarian language. Conducting such an analysis has made it possible to ascertain the level of prestige attached to standardized Hungarian and the degree of stigmatization of individuals speaking differentiating dialects. Aside from that, the research exposes the contrast and indicates the level of mutual intelligibility between the varied dialects. The research paper consists of three chapters, the first one covering the methodology of the research while the second focuses on dialects as a philological term and presents Hungarian dialects in their linguistic and cultural forms. The third chapter analyzes surveys filled out by students attending universities and academies in Budapest all the while being a conclusory closing statement focusing on the findings revealed during this analysis.

Celem niniejszej pracy jest przedstawienie węgierskich dialektów, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem terenów Dawnych Węgier oraz nastawienia węgierskich studentów do osób posługujących się innymi odmianami języka. Przeprowadzenie takiej analizy pozwoliło na ocenę prestiżu jakim cieszy się standardowy język węgierski oraz stopień stygmatyzacji form dialektalnych na Węgrzech. Oprócz tego, badanie wskazuje na poziom zróżnicowania owych dialektów i stopień ich rozumienia. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów, z których pierwszy jest przedstawieniem metodologii badań. Drugi traktuje ogólnie o dialekcie, jako terminie językoznawczym oraz opisuje dialekty węgierskie pod względem językowym i kulturowym. Trzeci rozdział natomiast jest analizą ankiet przeprowadzonych wśród studentów budapeszteńskich uczelni i tym samym jest podsumowaniem skupiającym wnioski dostrzeżone w procesie owej analizy.
