Reforms of the Tea Ceremony by Sen no Rikyū

Sen no Rikyū poprzez reformy, które wprowadził w ceremonii parzenia i picia herbaty, wprowadził ją na drogę odmienną od tej praktykowanej wcześniej. W tekście omawiam reguły sformułowane przez Rikyū. Dotyczą one nie tylko przygotowania napoju, ale także podejmowania gości, przygotowania odpowiedniego otoczenia. Najważniejsza jest jednak postawa i sposób myślenia gospodarza. Te z kolei mają być zgodne z ideami przyświecającymi buddyzmowi zen. Rozpatruję więc chadō i chanoyu bardziej pod kątem jej etycznych niż estetycznych wartości.

Sen no Rikyū made rules which bring Tea Ceremony to way different than his predecessors. In the text I describe Rikyū’s rules. They concern not only preparing tea, taking the guests or preparation of the appropriate environment. However, most important is the attitude and a state of mind of Master of the Ceremony. These must be compatible with the ideas of Buddhism Zen. So, I consider chadō and chanoyu from the point of view of ethical rather than aesthetic values.
