Image of the Indian in the works of Sat-Okh and Alfred Szklarski

The dissertation concerns the problem of representing the Indian in the literature for children and teenagers. Based on the works of Stanisław Supłatowicz (Sat-Okh) and Alfred Szklarski the author analyses images of Indians in books of both writers. Important aspect of the thesis is issue of colonization and its presentation in works of these storywriters. The problems of stereotypes, myths and imaginations concerning Indians are also discussed. The author concludes that the way of perceiving other cultures and presenting them in the literature is still current and worth studying issue.

Praca dotyczy problemu przedstawiania rdzennych mieszkańców Ameryki w literaturze dla dzieci i młodzieży. Na podstawie zestawienia twórczości Alfreda Szklarskiego i Stanisława Supłatowicza (Sat-Okha) autorka dokonuje analizy obrazu Indian w książkach obu pisarzy. Ważnym aspektem pracy jest zagadnienie kolonizacji i jej przedstawienia w utworach literackich wymienionych twórców. Poruszony zostaje także problem stereotypów, mitów i wyobrażeń na temat Indian. Autorka dowodzi, iż kwestia postrzegania innej kultury i jej przedstawienia w dziele literackim jest problemem wciąż aktualnym i wartym uwagi.
