Building social identity of Gilowice’s residents about Stanisław Pyjas

Niniejsza praca dotyczy budowania tożsamości społecznej mieszkańców Gilowic wokół postaci Stanisława Pyjasa. Praca została podzielona na dwie części – teoretyczną, w której oparto się na kilku koncepcjach tożsamości oraz pamięci zbiorowej, a także metodologiczną, w której opisuję przeprowadzone badania wśród mieszkańców Gilowic. Głównymi celami badania było: sprawdzenie, wokół czego skupia się tożsamość społeczna mieszkańców Gilowic; przedstawienie, które postacie lub wydarzenia istnieją w ich pamięci zbiorowej; opis stosunku mieszkańców Gilowic do postaci Stanisława Pyjasa; zbadanie, czy ta postać istnieje w pamięci zbiorowej młodzieży oraz zaproponowanie sposobów jej upamiętniania. Na końcu pracy znajduje się opis minionego wydarzenia pt.: „Być niepokornym – występując w obronie praw obywatelskich. W 41. rocznicę śmierci Stanisława Pyjasa”, które było zwieńczeniem tejże pracy.

This thesis concerns building social identity revolving around Stanisław Pyjas ofthe residents of Gilowice. The paper consists of two parts. The first part is a presentaton of a few concepts of identity and social memory. Whereas the second part is methodological part where results of research conducted in a form of a survey within Gilowice community is described. The main purposes of the survey were to explore around what subject the social identity of the residents of Gilowice is concentrated, to present which characters and events exist in its social memory, to describe attitude of local residents towards Stanisław Pyjas, as well as to explore if he exists in social memory of local teenagers and to propose a way to commemorate him. In the end of the paper there is a description of the course of the event called „To be defiant to defend our rights. On the 41th anniversary of death of Stanisław Pyjas”, which has been the culmination of this study.
