The headscarf debate in German schools

Die folgende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Problematik des Kopftuchs im Schulbereich. Es wird auf die Frage eingegangen, ob Lehrerinnen ihre Kopftücher während des Schulunterrichts tragen dürfen. Eines der Ziele dieser Arbeit ist es, das Kopftuchphänomen in dem Schulbereich auf politischer, schulischen, religiöser und feministischer Diskursebene zu analysieren und dabei verschiedene Standpunkte zu präsentieren. Als Datenmaterial für die Arbeit dienten Artikel aus drei deutschen Online-Nachrichtenmagazinen, die in dem Zeitraum 2013-2015 erschienen und sich mit auf die Debatte über das Kopftuchverbot befasst haben. Zuerst wird die Kopftuchproblematik als Untersuchungsgegenstand präsentiert. Hierfür ist es notwendig, kurz auf den historischen Ursprung des Kopftuchs zu berücksichtigen. Zusätzlich werden sein Stellenwert im Koran sowie seine Funktion als Kleidungsstück nahegebracht. Die verwendete Untersuchungsmethode nutzt Elemente der kritischen Diskursanalyse nach Sigfried Jäger. Im theoretischen Teil wird auf zwei kulturwissenschaftliche Konzepte: auf die Kultursemiotik und die Xenologie eingegangen. Danach wird der Leser in Genese des Kopftuchstreits in Deutschland eingeführt. Danach wird die aktuelle Situation in Hinsicht auf die Kopftuchdebatte umrissen. Durch die Analyse des gesammelten Materials sollen die Argumentationslinien Für und Wider das Kopftuch an deutschen Schulen dargestellt werden. Im Anschluss daran werden Schlussfolgerungen gezogen.

The subject of the submitted graduation thesis is the headscarf debate in German schools. The aim is to discuss the issue about wearing headscarves by Muslim teachers in the classroom. The analysis focuses on presentation the opinions from the school, political, religious and feminist fields. Data for this study were collected from three German online magazines in the period between 2013-2015. This thesis first sketches the headscarf as the object of investigation with its brief history, position in Quran and role as a piece of cloth. The applied research method contents the elements of the Critical Discourse Analysis from Siegfried Jäger. The theoretical part deals with the two concepts of Cultural Science: Cultural Semiotics and Xenology. The starting point of the headscarf debate in Germany is illustrated in the next chapter. The discussion about the permission to wear headscarves by the teachers makes reference to the perception of Muslim women and regulations of the religious symbols in schools. On the basis of these aspects the remarks from the politicians, head masters and members of religious environments are analyzed. The last part of the thesis consists of conclusions and a summary.

Przedmiotem przełożonej pracy jest przedstawienie problematyki chusty islamskiej w niemieckich szkołach. Celem jest analiza możliwości noszenia chusty islamskiej w trakcie zajęć na podstawie opinii ze środowiska politycznego, religijnego, szkolnego i feministycznego z trzech niemieckich magazynów online w okresie 2013-2015. W pierwszym rozdziale została opisana historia chusty islamskiej, jej pozycja w Koranie oraz funkcja, jako część ubioru. Część teoretyczna przybliża koncepcje semiotyki kultury i kulturowego postrzegania obcych wraz z elementami krytycznej analizy dyskursu Siegfrieda Jägera. Następną część stanowi opis wydarzenia początkującego debatę na temat chusty islamskiej w Niemczech. Na tej podstawie został przedstawiony aktualny stan dyskusji wraz z odpowiednimi argumentami za i przeciw. W ostatniej części znajdują się wnioski i podsumowanie.
