Significance of father's presence during childhood and adolescence for self-esteem, self-efficacy and quality of women's relationship in the period of emerging adulthood

In the case of divorce, scientists pay attention to the negative impact a father's absence can cause on different aspects of their daughter's functioning including low self-esteem and a bad quality of established close relationships. It was decided to simultaneously study how a father's presence can affect self-esteem and the quality of relationships made by young women and to make an attempt of observing the effect of a father's presence on the self-esteem of women in emerging adulthood. The research also dealt with analyzing the significance of the age in which the women were, when their father moved out of home; an impact on their family situation during their parents' divorce, the satisfaction caused by contact with their father, the support that was received from him and the quality of contact the women had with their step-father. The study showed that fathers living together with their daughters have a significant meaning to their self-esteem, moral self-acceptance, the feeling of being loved, intimacy in a relationship and disappointment from a relationship. Moreover, the analysis confirmed the influence of satisfaction that comes from contact with their father has on disappointment from a relationship, the influence of feeling the support received from their father on the feeling of being loved and on the feeling of moral self-acceptance. The conducted research did not prove the father's presence has an impact on self-efficacy. There were a noted relation between the age in which a daughter was abandoned by her father and the feeling of being loved in the period of emerging adulthood.

Badacze zwracają uwagę na negatywny wpływ nieobecności ojca spowodowanej rozwodem na różne aspekty funkcjonowania córki, w tym na samoocenę oraz jakość nawiązywanych bliskich relacji. Postanowiono zbadać znaczenie obecności ojca dla samooceny i jakości tworzonych przez młode kobiety związków podejmując równocześnie próbę uchwycenia wpływu obecności ojca na poczucie własnej skuteczności kobiet w okresie wyłaniającej się dorosłości. W badaniach analizowano również znaczenie wieku, w którym była kobiety, kiedy ojciec wyprowadził się z domu, wpływ atmosfery rodzinnej towarzyszącej rozwodowi rodziców, satysfakcji z kontaktu z ojcem, wsparcia otrzymywanego od ojca oraz jakości kontaktu z ojczymem. Badanie wykazało, iż wspólne zamieszkiwanie ojca z córką ma istotne znaczenie dla jej samooceny ogólnej, samoakceptacji moralnej, poczucia bycia kochaną, intymności w związku oraz rozczarowania ze związku. Ponadto analiza potwierdziła związek satysfakcji z kontaktów z ojcem z rozczarowaniem ze związku, znaczenie odczuwanego wsparcia od ojca z poczuciem bycia kochaną i rozczarowaniem ze związku oraz znaczenie jakości kontaktu z ojczymem z poczuciem bycia kochaną i samoakceptacją moralną.
