Verbale Höflichkeit im Film "The Help" in der Übersetzung ins Deutsche und ins Polnische

The dissertation investigates verbal politeness in the movie „The Help” in the German and Polish translation. The main concern of this thesis is to compare how politeness is presented in the original movie and its two translations, with the focus on the three main forms of the audiovisual translation, namely: subtitles and voice-over in the Polish translation and dubbing in the German translation. We should ask ourselves what limitations these forms impose and how they influence the expression of politeness. In the case of voice-over one of the problems can be the monotone voice of the person who reads the translation. It has a tremendous influence on the reception of politeness. That is why it is crucial to investigate also non-verbal elements, such as intonation and see what impact they have on verbal politeness. The non-verbal elements (for instance a raised voice which you are able to identify in dubbing, but does not occur in voice-over) have an impact on the scale of politeness. Therefore, the dubbing translation can be less polite than the voice-over translation. The basis of the analysis is the relationship between the Afro-Americans and the white elite, but also the relationships within these two groups.

Tematem niniejszej pracy jest grzeczność werbalna w filmie „Służące” w tłumaczeniu na język niemiecki i polski. Zasadniczym problemem badawczym jest porównanie tego, jak grzeczność została wyrażona w oryginale oraz w jego tłumaczeniach z uwzględnieniem trzech najczęściej używanych form tłumaczenia audiowizualnego, a mianowicie: napisów i lektora w wersji polskiej oraz dubbingu w wersji niemieckiej. Należy przy tym zadać sobie pytanie, jakie ograniczenia narzuca każda z tych form oraz jaki ma to wpływ na wyraz grzeczności. W przypadku lektora zasadniczym problemem może być monotonny sposób, w jaki lektor czyta tłumaczenie. To wpływa na odbiór wielu aspektów, w tym grzeczności. Z tego względu należy również zbadać wpływ elementów niewerbalnych (np. intonacja) na grzeczność werbalną. Podniesiony głos, który występuje w dubbingu, ale brak go w lektorze ma odzwierciedlenie w skali grzeczności. Dlatego też tłumaczenie w formie dubbingu może być bardziej niegrzeczne niż tłumaczenie w formie lektora. Podstawą analizy jest występująca w filmie relacja pomiędzy Afroamerykanami oraz białoskórą elitą jak również relacje wewnątrz każdej z tych grup.

In der Arbeit „Verbale Höflichkeit im Film „The Help” in der Übersetzung ins Deutsche und ins Polnische“ wird untersucht, wie der Ausdruck der Höflichkeit in den drei Typen der audiovisuellen Übersetzung: Untertitelung, Synchronisation und Voice-over realisiert wird. Die Analyse wird am Beispiel des Films „The Help” in den drei Sprachversionen: in der originellen englischen, der polnischen und der deutschen, durchgeführt. Man stellt sich die Fragen, welche Beschränkungen jede Form der Filmübersetzung mit sich bringt und welchen Einfluss das auf die Höflichkeit hat. Bei dem Voice-over kann die eintönige Stimme des Vorlesers ein Problem sein, denn sie beeinflusst den Empfang der Höflichkeit. Deswegen ist es wichtig, auch nicht-verbale Elemente, wie z.B. Intonation und ihren Einfluss auf die verbale Höflichkeit zu untersuchen. Die erhobene Stimme, die in der Synchronisation leicht zu identifizieren ist, jedoch gibt es sie nicht im Voice-Over, findet Widerspiegelung in dem Höflichkeitsgrad. Aus diesem Grund kann die Übersetzung in der Form von Synchronisation unhöflicher als im Fall des Voice-Overs sein. Bei der Analyse konzentriere ich mich vor allem auf die im Film dargestellten Relationen zwischen den afroamerikanischen Hausangestellten und der weißen Oberschicht, sowie die Relationen innerhalb dieser Gruppen.
