The expression of linguistic politeness in German textbooks for adults on the example of two series of textbooks

The main aim of my thesis is to identify the means of expressing politeness in the two German textbook series for adults (“Menschen” and “Aspekte”) and to determine whether this phenomenon is expressed explicitly, namely whether students are made aware of means of politeness and may practice them in a situational context. The thesis consists of three chapters. The first chapter includes definitions, the etymology of the keyword of my work as well as the consideration of politeness from the everyday and linguistic perspective. Besides, there are also discussed the most important politeness concepts together with their linguistic foundations. The second chapter contains a description of the forms of verbal politeness, namely routine formulas (greetings, forms of address, thanks, apologies, compliments) as well as speech acts expressing politeness (directives and wishes together with their subtypes). In the third chapter there is an analysis of the two textbook series (“Menschen” and “Aspekte”) in which the two textbooks are examined with regard to the means of expressing politeness. Finally, the conclusions are drawn on the basis of the whole analysis.

Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, die Präsenz der Mittel zum Ausdruck der Höflichkeit in zwei Lehrbuchreihen für Erwachsene („Menschen“ und „Aspekte“) zu eruieren und zu bestimmen, ob dieses Phänomen darin auf eine explizite Weise behandelt, den Lernern in einem situativen Kontext präsentiert, ihnen bewusst gemacht und geübt wird. Die Arbeit besteht aus drei Kapiteln. Im ersten Kapitel werden die Definitionen und die Etymologie des Schlüsselwortes meiner Arbeit, sowie die Betrachtung der Höflichkeit aus der alltagsprachlichen und linguistischen Perspektive dargestellt. Dabei werden auch die wichtigsten Höflichkeitskonzepte und ihre Grundlagen präsentiert. Das zweite Kapitel enthält die Beschreibung der Erscheinungsformen verbaler Höflichkeit, nämlich der Routineformeln (Gruß-, Anrede-, Dankesformeln, Entschuldigung und Komplimente) sowie der Sprechakte, die im Hinblick auf den Ausdruck der Höflichkeit besonders relevant sind (Aufforderung und Wunsch zusammen mit ihren Teilfeldern). Im dritten Kapitel wird eine Analyse zweier Lehrbuchreihen („Menschen“ und „Aspekte“) durchgeführt, in der die beiden Lehrwerke im Hinblick auf die Mittel zum Ausdruck der Höflichkeit untersucht werden. Schließlich werden die Schlussfolgerungen aus der ganzen Analyse gezogen.

Celem niniejszej pracy jest wykrycie obecności środków wyrażania grzeczności językowej w dwóch seriach podręczników do języka niemieckiego dla dorosłych („Menschen” i „Aspekte”) oraz zbadanie, czy to zjawisko jest traktowane w tych podręcznikach w sposób eksplicytny, tzn. czy środki te są uczniom wprowadzane w kontekście sytuacyjnym, uświadamiane oraz ćwiczone. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów. W pierwszym rozdziale zostały przedstawione definicje oraz etymologia słowa „grzeczność” jak i grzeczność z perspektywy języka codziennego oraz lingwistycznej (grzeczność werbalna). Poza tym zostały zaprezentowane także najważniejsze koncepcje grzeczności wraz z ich naukowymi podstawami. Drugi rozdział zawiera opis form grzeczności werbalnej, a mianowicie form rutynowych (pozdrowienia, formy adresatywne, podziękowania, przeproszenia, komplementy) oraz aktów mowy dla wyrażenia grzeczności (akty dyrektywne oraz akt życzenia wraz z ich aktami częściowymi). W trzecim rozdziale została przeprowadzona analiza dwóch serii podręczników („Menschen” i „Aspekte”) pod kątem środków wyrażania grzeczności językowej. Na koniec z całej analizy zostały wyciągnięte wnioski.
