"Kulturowi terroryści" : problemy artysty we współczesnym życiu teatralnym Ukrainy

Heterogeneous and large-scale processes of socio-cultural transformation that affect the contemporary Ukrainian society have also impacted the art. The trends visible for twenty years in the Ukainian theatre have oscillated between entertainment, aimed at a large audience and the experimental theatre, aspiring to elitism. Especially the activity of the latter: studio theatres, is a significant example of the problems affecting theatre artists in the contemporary life in Ukraine. Lack of financial and institutional support from the state are not the only shades nor clue of the problem. It is more about the aesthetic weakness of the theatre art. The problem of the Ukrainian theatre repertoire is associated with a general crisis of the contemporary Ukrainian drama, caused by lack of understatnding of the main trends present in the modern theatre, and an escape from the current problems that the society faces, visible in the works presented to the audience. Dramaturgy being outside of the contemporary context of the theatre, as theatre, being outside of the actual context of life, lead this kind of art towards the loss of its main meaning, which is the social function, letting it remain just on the action-and-entertainment level
