The markers of the theatricality in the comedy Le Barbier de Séville

La pièce de Pierre-Caron de Beaumarchais représente la dernière étape de la comédie en France. Cependant, l’œuvre relie la tradition avec l’esthétique nouvelle du XVIIIe siècle et donne ainsi naissance au théâtre moderne. Mon mémoire de licence a donc pour l’objectif de révéler cette fusion des traits traditionnels avec les idées caractéristiques des Lumières, laquelle forme une œuvre significative pour l’époque et universelle en même temps, enrichie encore par l’aspect de la musicalité qui a permis de prolonger le succès du Barbier sous forme de l’opéra.

The Pierre-Caron de Beaumarchais’ play is an example of the last phase of the traditional comedy in France. However, the creation binds a tradition with the esthetics of the XVIIIth century and thereby paves the way to the modern theater. The aim of the thesis is thus to analyse the fusion of the traditional characteristics with the ideas of Enlightenment, which makes the piece typical of its time and universal at the same time, along with the aspect of musicality which extended the success of Barbier in the form of opera.

Sztuka autorstwa Pierre’a-Caron de Beaumarchais przedstawia ostatni etap komedii klasycznej we Francji. Jednakże, dzieło łączy w sobie tradycję z estetyką XVIII wieku, tworząc w ten sposób fundamenty dla teatru współczesnego. Praca ma zatem na celu analizę połączenia cech tradycyjnych z ideami epoki Oświecenia, która umożliwiła powstanie dzieła zarówno znamiennego dla swojej epoki jak i uniwersalnego. Całość wzbogacona została również o aspekt muzykalności, któremu Cyrulik Sewilski zawdzięcza późniejszy sukces pod postacią opery.
