Obraz Ameryki w cyklu powieściowym Stephena Kinga "Mroczna Wieża"

Praca pokazuje obraz Ameryki we współczesnej literaturze, opierając się się na przykładzie powieściowego cyklu Stephena Kinga "Mroczna Wieża". Wykorzystywane w powieściach techniki narracyjne oraz najistotniejsze elementy fabularne umożliwiają analizę amerykańskiej kultury i społeczeństwa. Przywoływane w pracy teksty Josepha R. Slaughtera pozwalają udowodnić, że „Mroczna Wieża” to gatunkowo Bildungsroman. Przedstawione w jednym z rozdziałów porównanie Nowego Jorku i Miasta Lud stawia tezę, że tylko podążanie za tradycyjnymi wartościami pozwoli amerykańskiemu społeczeństwu przetrwać. Koncepcja przestrzeni jest niezwykle istotna w "Mrocznej Wieży". W powieściach, zwłaszcza w "Wilkach z Calla", przestrzeń reprezentuje ogromną wartość i powinna być chroniona, podobnie jak rodzina i najbliżsi. "Mroczna Wieża" to także mozaika złożona z różnych elementów pochodzących z amerykańskiej kultury. Wymienione punkty analizowane w pracy pozwalają stwierdzić, że "Mroczna Wieża" Stephena Kinga ukazuje pełny obraz współczesnej Ameryki.

The thesis used the example of Stephen King's novel cycle "The Dark Tower" to describe the presentation of America in contemporary literature. Through the characterization of King's narrative techniques and the examination of elements of the story to determine which of them are crucial, it analysed the American culture and society. The thesis proved that ”The Dark Tower” novels belong to the Bildungsroman genre by applying the framework proposed by Joseph R. Slaughter. To show that in order to survive, society has to follow rules linked to the traditional American morality, the thesis compared New York City and fictional City of Lud. The concept of space is also significant in ”The Dark Tower”. In the novels, especially in "Wolves of Calla", the space should be protected because, alongside family and close ones, the land represents a true value. ”The Dark Tower” is also a mosaic of different elements from American culture. Proving these points allowed me to show that Stephen King’s ”The Dark Tower” try to present the full picture of modern America.
