The role of racism and its impact on the Arabic literature. The image of dark-skinned person in Kamāl ar-Rīāḥīs novel titled "al-Ġūrīllā"

The subject of this thesis is the presentation of racism and its impact on Arabic literature. The text aims to present intolerance against dark-skinned people among the Arab community. Based on the sources from the Islamic and pre-Islamic period the author analyzes issues related to religion and tradition, which became the factor contributed to development of the racism on the territory of the Middle East. Author of the thesis compares old-time prejudices and rooted stereotypes with contemporary image of a black man from the novel of Kamāl ar-Rīāḥī, titled “al-Ġūrīllā". The way of treatment of the main character and his marginalization in the environment in which he lives shows the current beliefs about the black people. Despite the fact that racism is counter to Muslim values, intolerance towards the dark-skinned people is still visible in the areas.

Tematem niniejszej pracy jest przedstawienie rasizmu i jego wpływu na literaturę arabską. Tekst ma na celu zbadać nietolerancję względem czarnoskórych wśród społeczności arabskiej. W oparciu o zebrane informacje, pochodzące z okresu ğāhiliyyi oraz muzułmańskiego, autor pracy analizuje kwestie związane z religią i tradycją, które stały się podstawą dla zaistnienia owego fenomenu na terytorium Bliskiego Wschodu. Zakorzenione stereotypy i dawne uprzedzenia konfrontuje ze współczesnym obrazem czarnoskórego człowieka z powieści Kamāla ar-Rīāḥīego pt. “al-Ġūrīllā”. Sposób traktowanie głównego bohatera oraz jego marginalizacja w środowisku, w którym mieszka, odzwierciedla panujące obecnie przekonania względem czarnoskórych. Mimo tego, iż rasizm jest sprzeczny z wartościami muzułmańskimi, to nietolerancja względem ciemnoskórej ludności jest wciąż widoczna na wspomnianych terenach.
