The subject of the master thesis is the functioning of the Border Guard of the Republic of Poland as part of the Schengen Agreement membership on the example of the Bieszczadzki Border Guard Unit. The master thesis includes systematizing issues and events that led to the emergence of the idea of “a Europe without borders” and the way of the Republic of Poland to membership in the Schengen Agreement. The master thesis includes a historical overview of Polish border formations and a characterisation of the tasks of the Border Guard of the Republic of Poland. The example of the Bieszczadzki Border Guard Unit used illustrates the essence of protection of the external border of the European Union by the Polish border formation.
