Hospitalisation as a difficult situation and professional activity of psychiatric wards nurses in the opinion of patients with schizophrenia

Schizofrenia jest zaburzeniem psychicznym o niejednorodnym przebiegu oraz zróżnicowanym obrazie klinicznym. Etiologia schizofrenii nie jest jednoznacznie określona, a kryteria diagnostyczne ściśle wyszczególnione. Terapia opiera się głównie na leczeniu biologicznym oraz interwencjach psychospołecznych. W wyniku złożonej istoty tego zaburzenia oraz podejmowanej hospitalizacji, sytuację pacjentów można określić jako trudną. Podczas leczenia zadaniem zespołu pielęgniarskiego jest otoczenie pacjenta jak najlepszą opieką, a tym samym poprawa ich sytuacji zdrowotnej.Celem pracy było poznanie opinii pacjentów na temat ich sytuacji oraz ich poglądu na temat aktywności zawodowej pielęgniarek na oddziale psychiatrycznym.Badanie przeprowadzono wśród pacjentów ze schizofrenią, leczonych na oddziałach psychiatrycznych ogólnych. W tym celu zastosowano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego, a w ramach narzędzi wykorzystano autorski kwestionariusz ankiety, skalę PS-T oraz autorską ilustrację.Ocena sytuacji chorych została określona przez nich jako ważny okres w ich życiu, nad którym mają w pewnym stopniu kontrolę i który, według nich, zakończy się pozytywnie. Pomimo, że pacjenci ocenili swoją sytuację w większości jako bardzo lub raczej trudną, a także są niepewni przyszłych wydarzeń, zadeklarowali, że nie mają w związku z nią poczucia zagrożenia. Dodatkowo, chorzy stwierdzili, że obecna sytuacja wiąże się dla nich z odczuciem straty, w której mają pewną możliwość działania. Pomimo tego, respondenci w większości odpowiedzieli, że mają świadomość korzyści, jaka płynie z przebiegu aktualnych wydarzeń. Ponadto, wykazano związek pomiędzy oceną sytuacji a postrzeganiem aktywności pielęgniarek. Ocena sytuacji, a także aktywności zawodowej pielęgniarek różniła się pomiędzy pacjentami o różnych kryteriach demograficznych Pacjenci wyrazili ogólne zadowolenie z opieki pielęgniarek na oddziale oraz pozytywnie ocenili ich aktywność zawodową. Podejmowane interwencje przez pielęgniarki powinny odznaczać się wysokim stopniem świadomości.

Schizophrenia is a mental disorder with a heterogeneous course and a varied clinical picture. The aetiology of schizophrenia is not clearly defined. Diagnostic criteria of the disease are not strictly specified. The therapy is based mainly on biological treatment and psychosocial interventions. As a result of the complex nature of this disorder and the hospitalisation undertaken, the situation of patients can be described as difficult. The task of the nursing team is to provide the patient with the best possible care and thus to improve their health situation during the treatment.The aim of the study was to evaluate the situation of patients and their opinions on the professional activity of nurses in the psychiatric ward.The study was conducted among patients with schizophrenia treated in general psychiatric wards. For this purpose, the diagnostic survey method was used,and the tools used a questionnaire, PS-T scale and illustration.The assessment of the situation of patients was defined by them as an important period in their lives, over which they have some degree of control and which, according to them, will end in a positive way. Despite the fact that patients assessed their situation mostly as very or rather difficult, and are uncertain about future events, they declared that they did not feel threatened by it. In addition, the patients stated that the current situation is associated with a sense of loss, in which they have a certain ability to act. Despite this, the majority of respondents replied that they were aware of the benefits of the current events. In addition, there was a link between the assessment of the situation and the perception of nurses' activity. The assessment of the situation as well as the professional activity of nurses differed between patients with different demographic criteria. The main conclusion of the study was the general satisfaction of patients with nursing care during treatment in the ward. Nurses' interventions should have a high level of awareness.
