Influence of didactic materials on the development of intercultural competence. Analysis of textbooks for teaching Polish as a foreign language

Komunikacja interkulturowa w edukacji językowej nie jest nowym zagadnieniem i liczba publikacji na ten temat jest bardzo liczna. Mimo to problematyka ta ciągle wymaga refleksji i dyskusji. Zdobywanie wiedzy na temat różnych kultur wydaje się być logicznym następstwem rozwoju międzykulturowej kompetencji komunikacyjnej. Dynamika zmian społeczno-gospodarczych, reforma szkolnictwa oraz ogólna globalizacja sprawiają, że zadania nauczycieli w obrębie kompetencji międzykulturowej powinny być ciągle aktualizowane. Celem tej pracy jest analiza komponentu międzykulturowego zawartego w podręcznikach przeznaczonych do nauczania języka polskiego jako obcego. Podręczniki zostały przeanalizowane na podstawie siatki analizy opartej między innymi na modelu międzykulturowej kompetencji komunikacyjnej autorstwa Michaela Byrama.

Intercultural communication in language education is not a new issue and the numbers of publications about this topic is very numerous. Even then this problematic aspect still needs a reflexion and discussion. Enriching the knowledge about different cultures seems to be a logical consequence of development of intercultural communication competence. The dynamic of social and economic changes, school reform and common globalisation cause that teacher tasks in range of intercultural competence should be still actualized. The aim of this paper is to evaluate intercultural content concluded in selected coursebooks used in teaching Polish as a foreign language. The coursebooks were analysed by means of a questionnaire based among others on Byram’s model.
