The Historical Basis of Contemporary Problems of Indian Reservation In the USA

The thesis analyses contemporary problems in Native American reservations in North America. The first chapter deals with the history of the Indians before discovery of America and after the first contacts with the Europeans, legal and political situation of Indians after the arrival of the Europeans and cultural changes and the Indian assimilation program. Further part presents the concept and organization of reservations. The third chapter discusses contemporary problems among Indian tribes such as: self-government, alcoholism, crime, health and housing issues.

Praca analizuje współczesne problemy w rezerwatach indiańskich w Ameryce Północnej. W rozdziale pierwszym przedstawiono historię Indian przed odkryciem Ameryki przez Krzysztofa Kolumba oraz po kontaktach z Europejczykami, sytuację prawno-polityczną Indian po kontakcie oraz przemiany kulturowe i program asymilacji Indian. Dalsza część przedstawia koncepcję i organizację rezerwatów. W rozdziale trzecim omówione zostały współczesne problemy plemion indiańskich takie jak: samorządność, alkoholizm, przestępczość, problemy zdrowotne oraz mieszkaniowe.
