Left-wing politics in mass media discourse through the example of Polish weekly news magazines

The subject matter of the thesis concerns the ways of portraying left-wing politics in the discourse of Polish weekly news magazines. The issue was described through the example of several magazines of different political affiliations: Przegląd, Polityka, Do Rzeczy and Sieci. It raises the questions of such matters as the characteristics of broadcasters and recipients of the discourse, the political direction in the economic and the identity sphere attributed to the left-wing politics by the magazines and the assessment of the activities of Polish political parties referring to leftist ideologies. The subject of the analysis were also some language aspects of the discourse. It also describes the semantic field of the concept of the left. The thesis is of a theoretical and empirical nature. The research method used in the research was qualitative discourse analysis. The analysis was therefore mainly exploratory and descriptive. It included 36 articles concerning the issue of the political left, which were published in mentioned magazines.

Tematyka pracy dotyczy sposobów ukazywania lewicy politycznej w dyskursie polskich tygodników opinii. Problematykę opisano na przykładzie kliku wybranych czasopism o różnych afiliacjach politycznych: Przeglądu, Polityki, Do Rzeczy i Sieci. Poruszono w niej m.in. takie kwestie jak charakterystyka nadawców i adresatów dyskursu, kierunek polityczny w sferze gospodarczej i tożsamościowej przypisywany lewicy przez owe tygodniki czy ocena działalności polskich partii politycznych odwołujących się do ideologii lewicowych. Przedmiotem analizy były także niektóre aspekty językowe dyskursu. Na jej podstawie opisano również pole semantyczne pojęcia lewica. Praca ma charakter teoretyczno-empiryczny. Metodą badawczą wykorzystaną w pracy była jakościowa analiza dyskursu. Analiza miała zatem przede wszystkim charakter eksploracyjny i opisowy. Objętych nią zostało 36 artykułów, poświęconych tematyce lewicy politycznej ze wspomnianych czterech tygodników.
