Sterodogenic Leydig cells of the male gonad in health and disease

Diploma work presents the structure and physiology of male gonad, focusing on the role of Leydig cells. The origin and developement of fetal Leydig cells, the aging process within these cells, their function and role in the regulation of spermatogenesis are presented. The work was also aimed to presenting selected disease units including Leydig cells such as: Klinefelter syndrome, testicular cancer, hypogonadism or steroidogenic-enzyme deficiency. In addition, environmental factors that interfere with the function of Leydig cells such as anabolic-androgenic steroids, the impact of cadmium, phthalates and dioxins were discussed.

W niniejszej pracy przestawiono budowę oraz fizjologię gonady męskiej, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem roli komórek Leydiga. Przedstawiono genezę i rozwój płodowych komórek Leydiga, proces starzenia w obrębie tych komórek, ich funkcji oraz rolę w regulacji spermatogenezy. Praca miała na celu również przedstawienie wybranych jednostek chorobowych obejmujących zaburzenia czynności gonady męskiej związane z komórkami Leydiga takie jak: zespół Klinefeltera, nowotwory jąder, hipogonadyzm czy deficyt enzymów steroidogennych. Ponadto, przedstawiono czynniki środowiskowe, które zaburzają funkcję komórek Leydiga takie jak sterydy anaboliczno-androgenne, wpływ kadmu, ftalanów oraz dioksyn.
