Social and economic changes in Jastrzębie-Zdrój in the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century

W pracy przedstawiono zmiany w rozwoju miasta Jastrzębie-Zdrój od XIX w. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na ewolucję funkcji z uzdrowiskowej do przemysłowej, zwłaszcza w kontekście jej wpływuna strukturę społeczną miasta. Współcześnie Jastrzębie-Zdrój dąży do zmiany wizerunku z miasta przemysłowego, tworząc nowe usługi oraz gospodarując tereny nieczynnej kopalni dla rozwoju nowych firm. W granicach wciąż znajdują się aktywne cztery kopalnie, które mają dominującą rolę w zatrudnieniu jego mieszkańców.

This paper presents development changes of the Jastrzebie-Zdrój city since the XX century. Specific attention was devoted to the evolution from health resort sector to industry, especially its influence on the social structure of the city. The Jastrzębie-Zdrój aims to change its image of industrial city by broadening the service sector and making use of the closed mine's territory to encourage the new companies development. At the moment, there are 4 functional coal mines, which still play the major role in the overall employment.
