Święto Głodnych Duchów- wierzenia i tradycje

Na przestrzeni wieków w kulturze chińskiej pojawiło się wiele świąt, rytuałów i ceremonii, których celem było zaspokajanie potrzeb zmarłych, dzięki czemu tradycyjne święta są bardzo głęboko zakorzenione w mentalności chińskiej i do dzisiaj stanowią ważny element życia. Celem niniejszej pracy jest przedstawienie i analiza Święta Głodnych Duchów – jego pochodzenia, związanych z nim tradycji, wierzeń i obrzędów, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem złożoności chińskiego spojrzenia na śmierć oraz problematyki kultu przodków. Praca ta zawiera wprowadzenie do chińskiego spojrzenia na koncepcję duszy i zaświatów oraz życia pozagrobowego i kultu przodków, definicję terminu głodnego ducha, opis ceremonii i tradycji związanych ze Świętem Głodnych Duchów, jak również wyszczególnienie ich znaczenia w kulturze chińskiej.

Throughout the ages in Chinese culture there were many holidays, rituals and ceremonies aimed at satisfying needs of the dead, thanks to which traditional festivals are very deeply rooted in Chinese mentality and to this day are very important element of life in China. The aim of this work is to present and analyze the Hungry Ghost Festival - its origin, associated traditions, beliefs and rituals, with particular emphasis on the complexity of the Chinese approach to death and the significance of ancestor worship in Chinese culture. This thesis contains an introduction to the Chinese approach to the concept of soul and life after death, the genesis of the notion ‘hungry ghost’ and description of the ceremonies and traditions associated with the Hungry Ghost Festival, as well as particularization of its importance in Chinese culture.
