The origins and the results of the Japans military expansion in the 19th and 20th centuries

In this research paper the author conducted the analysis of the origins and the results of the Japan's military expansion in the 19th and 20th centuries. The first chapter presents the crucial Meiji reforms that led to the Japanese expansion. The second chapter describes the relations between Japan, China, Korea and Russia - the conflicts and the wars between them. The third chapter shows how Japan had been seen by the Western countries in the middle of the 19th century and how it changed until the middle of the 20th century. All in all, the conclusion is that the Japanese expansion may stem from the Japan's modernization and is one of its aspects. Furthermore, due to expansion Japan became the powerful country with strong army and prosperous economy, what caused the increase of the imperialistic ambition.

Niniejsza praca opisuje genezę rozpoczęcia ekspansji militarnej przez Japonię w II połowie XIX wieku, jej przebieg na przełomie XIX i XX wieku oraz skutku jakie miała dla samej Japonii oraz innych państw. W pierwszej części autorka przedstawia najważniejsze reformy ery Meiji, które doprowadziły do japońskiej ekspansji terytorialnej. W drugiej części pracy analizie zostają poddane stosunki Japonii z Koreą, Chinami i Rosją oraz poszczególne konflikty pomiędzy wspomnianymi państwami. W ostatniej części autorka pokazuje zamiany postrzegania Japonii przez Zachód od połowy wieku XIX do I połowy wieku XX. Analiza wszystkich czynników i zdarzeń pozwala wywnioskować, że ekspansja Japonii wynikała z modernizacji kraju i była jednym z jej aspektów, oraz że Japonia w jej wyniku stała się silnym militarnie i gospodarczo krajem z coraz większymi ambicjami imperialistycznymi.
