"Si esto es la vida, yo soy Caperucita Roja" as an example of the feminist rewriting of a traditional fairytale

Celem niniejszej pracy jest zademonstrowanie na czym polega feministyczne przepisywanie opowiadania Si esto es la vida, yo soy Caperucita Roja Luisy Valenzueli i czym różni się ta opowieść od swoich odpowiedników klasycznych napisanych przez Perraulta i braci Grimm. Dlatego też wspomniane opowiadanie zostanie przeanalizowane z podkreśleniem elementów teorii autorki, którą ona sama nazywa “escribir con el cuerpo” („pisanie ciałem”) i w której widoczne są wpływy feminizmu. Dysertacja będzie się składać z trzech rozdziałów: ramy teoretyczne, którymi będą feminizm i koncepcja pisarstwa Luisy Valenzueli, następnie kontekst literacko-kulturowy, gdzie przedstawiony zostanie komentarz dotyczący baśni Charles’a Perraulta i braci Grimm, ponadto, streszczenie ich wersji Czerwonego Kapturka i, ostatecznie, w ostatnim rozdziale zostanie przeprowadzona analiza, w której przedstawione zostaną modyfikacje wprowadzone do baśni tradycyjnej przez Valenzuelę, zinterpretowane jej decyzje i podkreślone elementy jej teorii na temat pisarstwa kobiecego, a także wpływy feminizmu obecne w jej dziele. Dzięki tej analizie zostanie udowodniony fakt, że argentyńska autorka krytykuje stereotypy związane z płcią i wzorce postępowania obecne w baśni tradycyjnej, a także że przesłanie jej opowiadania jest odmienne, gdyż odpowiada wartościom współczesnego społeczeństwa zachodniego, gdzie obie płcie posiadają te same prawa i możliwości.

The subject of this thesis is to demonstrate what constitutes the feminist rewriting of the Luisa Valenzuela´s tale Si esto es la vida, yo soy Caperucita Roja and what is the difference between this story and it´s classic equivalents written by Perrault and the brothers Grimm. Therefore, aforementioned tale will be analysed emphasizing the elements of the author´s theory which she denominates “escribir con el cuerpo” (“writing with the body”) and in which the influence of feminism is clearly evident. The study will consist of three chapters: the theoretical framework which is the feminism and the Luisa Valenzuela´s concept of writing, afterwards the literary context, where a commentary on the traditional fairy tales of Charles Perrault and the brothers Grimm will be exhibited, as well as a summary of their version of Little Red Riding Hood and eventually, in the last chapter, an analysis will be carried out, in which there will be outlined modifications introduced by Valenzuela in the traditional tale, also her decisions will be interpreted, and furthermore the elements of her theory on women´s writing will be highlighted and so will be the influence of feminism in her work. Thanks to this analysis it will be shown how the Argentinian author criticises gender stereotypes and models of behaviour present in the classical version of the children´s story, and moreover it will be proved that the message of her tale is very different, for it concurs with the values of the contemporary western society where both sexes have the same rights and possibilities.

El objetivo de presente trabajo es demostrar en qué consiste la reescritura feminista del cuento Si esto es la vida, yo soy Caperucita Roja de Luisa Valenzuela y cómo se diferencia ese relato de sus equivalentes clásicos de Perrault y de los hermanos Grimm. Por lo tanto, se analizará el relato mencionado y haciendo hincapié en los elementos de la teoría de su autora que ella misma denomina “escribir con el cuerpo” y en la cual son evidentes las influencias del feminismo. El estudio consistirá de tres capítulos: el marco teórico que será el feminismo y el concepto de la escritura de Luisa Valenzuela, posteriormente el contexto literario y cultural, donde se expondrá un comentario sobre los cuentos infantiles de Charles Perrault y los hermanos Grimm, además, se presentará un resumen de su versión de Caperucita Roja, y, finalmente, en el último capítulo, se realizará un análisis en el que se destacarán las modificaciones que introdució Valenzuela en el relato tradicional, se interpretarán sus decisiones y se subrayarán los elementos de su teoría sobre la escritura femenina y las influencias del feminismo en su texto. Gracias a este análisis se demostrará que la autora argentina critica los estereotipos de género y los modelos de conducta presentes en el cuento maravilloso tradicional, además que el mensaje de su relato es muy distinto, ya que concuerda con los valores de la sociedad occidental contemporánea donde ambos sexos tienen los mismos derechos y posibilidades.
