La imagen de la lucha por la libertad en El reino de este mundo según la teoría de Hayden White

The aim of this paper is the analysis of the description of the struggle for freedom in "The Kingdom of this World" by Alejo Carpentier. To discover how Carpentier presented the Haitian revolution organized by slaves against French colonisers we will study four fragments of the novel that present four stages of the revolt. The study will be inspired by Hayden White's theory which focuses on the tropology and the concept of two pasts. The analysis of the tropes will allow us to discover that Carpentier used metaphor and synecdoche to describe the struggle for freedom and that "The Kingdom of this World" is an example of how the practical past is created.

Celem tej pracy jest analiza opisu walki o wolność w „Królestwie z tego świata” Alejo Carpentiera. Aby odkryć, jak Carpentier przedstawił rewolucję na Haiti zorganizowaną przez niewolników przeciwko francuskim kolonizatorom, przebada się cztery fragmenty powieści, które przedstawiają cztery etapy powstania. Interpretacja będzie zainspirowana teorią Haydena White’a, która skupia się na teorii tropów i koncepcie dwóch przeszłości. Analiza tropów pozwoli odkryć, że Carpentier wykorzystał przede wszystkim metaforę i synekdochę do opisu walki o wolność, a także, że „Królestwo tego świata” jest przykładem tego, jak się tworzy przeszłość praktyczną.

El objetivo de este trabajo es el análisis de la descripción de la lucha por la libertad en “El reino de este mundo” de Alejo Carpentier. Para comprobar cómo Carpentier presentó la revolución haitiana organizada por los esclavos contra los colonos franceses se estudiará cuatro fragmentos de la obra que presentan cuatro etapas de la revuelta. El estudio será inspirado por la teoría de Hayden White que se centra en la teoría de los tropos y el concepto de dos pasados. El análisis de los tropos permitirá descubrir que Carpentier se sirvió sobre todo de la metáfora y la sinécdoque para describir la lucha por la libertad y, además, que “El reino de este mundo” es un ejemplo de cómo se crea el pasado práctico.
