Koncepcja faktu jako stanu rzeczy zaproponowana przez Davida Maleta Armstronga napotyka poważne ograniczenia. Wedlug Williama F. Vallicelli niewłaściwym jest wyjaśnienie, że stan rzeczy sam w sobie łączy obiekty wchodzące w jego skład. Ponadto postulowanie kolejnego składnika – łącznika – również jest krytykowane. Celem pracy jest pokazanie, że jedynie akceptacja łącznika zewnętrzego względem stanu rzeczy jest uzasadniona.

The concept of facts as states of affairs given by David Malet Armstrong faces several dangerous constraints. According to William F. Vallicella, the notion that the constituents of a state of affairs are brought together by the state of affairs itself becomes unintelligible. Even postulating its connector as another constituent does not help. The aim of the paper is to show that the only properly justified move is the acceptance of the existence of an external unifier.
